Launched in January 2020 and building on an initial five-year, $50M commitment from The Rockefeller Foundation and the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, data.org envisions a world that uses the power of data science to help solve society’s greatest challenges and improve lives across the globe. As a platform for partnerships, data.org works alongside social impact organizations, philanthropy, technology firms, and academia to build the field of data science for social impact.
Position Summary
As a member of the Executive team, the CFAO will provide high-level fiscal oversight, oversee contract administration and streamline both in-house personnel and resource systems. The CFAO will be responsible for the direct management, supervision and execution of data.org’s operational activities, provide ongoing financial oversight over its core operational budget as well as programmatic activities and oversee contracting support for data.org as a grantee/subgrantor.
The salary range for this position is $190,000 – $220,000 annually, and data.org offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 3% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, and paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.
data.org highly values facilitating an equitable standard of living across the regions in which it operates. This position’s location is remote and flexible. To promote transparency in compensation practices, this position lists a baseline salary for a US-based cost of living. Details of actual compensation will be discussed during the interview process to ensure compensation is approached comprehensively and equitability. Occasional travel required.
What you’ll do
data.org is seeking an experienced CFAO who will:
Collaborate with the rest of the executive leadership team in setting and driving operational strategy and systems around financials, HR, IT, accounting, and contracting;
Design and maintain streamlined financial planning routines including scenario planning, financial modelling and resource allocation across multiple multi-million-dollar programs;
Serve as an organizational leader matching resources with impact strategies and managing full-time staff and fiscal sponsor partnership;
Analyse internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement, including a focus on processes that drive efficiency and effectiveness in a fully-remote environment;
Prepare the operational side of data.org for its planned spin out as an independent 501c3 non-profit in 2023, working with the rest of the executive team to design the future structures of the organisation
Design and implement operational strategies that streamline contracting and grants management for the organization;
Partnering closely with the Chief of Staff in rolling out new and updating existing processes;
Oversee organizational operations and employee productivity, building on data.org’s inclusive culture and high-trust collaborative environment.
Qualifications you’ll need
A minimum of 5+ years of financial executive leadership experience. Demonstrated experience in supporting social-impact organizations is preferred;
A minimum of 5+ years of working within the US accounting and legal environment
Understanding of advanced financial and operational planning, organizational management and regulatory issues, pertinent to a US accounting and legal environment;
Demonstrated financial leadership experience;
Experience developing new processes for an early-stage environment, and right-sizing processes and solutions to the stage of the organization;
Mission-driven individual with strong judgement, interpersonal skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
Experience designing and implementing international contracting and grant-making process and operations.
Ability to develop and support systems and processes that support the organizational culture and an international team focused on results.
