Data and Analytics Director

Zearn Math instructional materials - including 400+ hours of digital math learning - are free for teachers and families. Zearn is seeking a Data & Analytics Director to lead and grow Zearn’s data team, including Data Analytics and Analytics Engineering functions. With billions of math problems solved on the Zearn platform each year, Zearn’s dataset offers massive potential for insights that can guide the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, helping all kids catch up and move forward with their learning.
As Zearn's Data & Analytics Director, you will lead our data team, partner with other internal teams at Zearn to understand their data needs, and set strategic direction and priorities for how we use Zearn’s data. This is a people manager role with individual contributor responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be excited to lead and grow a team of Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers as well as to roll up their sleeves to work on our data infrastructure and on analytics projects using Zearn’s one-of-a-kind educational data.
What you’ll do here:
Lead Zearn’s data team, provide feedback and mentorship to its members, and grow the team by hiring data analysts, analytics engineers, or other roles as needed to unlock the potential of our data
Set strategy and priorities for Zearn’s data team, the tools we use, and how our data is used
Manage and make improvements to Zearn’s most important data infrastructure such as our cloud data warehouse and dbt data model
Evangelize the use of data tools and best practices and ensure stakeholders’ analytics needs are being met
Develop dashboards, reports, and analyses that are used to improve Zearn as well as published and shared with the broader K-12 education community on topics such as strategies to prevent and overcome learning loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
8+ years of experience working in analytics, data science, analytics engineering, or a related field
Fluent in SQL and familiar with at least one programming language such as Python or R for statistical/data analysis use
Experience managing data analysts, analytics engineers, and/or similar roles
Deep understanding of the modern data stack, including:
Cloud data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery
Business Intelligence tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Mode
ETL/ELT platforms such as Fivetran or Airbyte
Data transformation tools, especially dbt
(Other great tools we use include Hex, Rudderstack, and Census, although experience with them is not required)
Excited about working closely with other teams across Zearn such as research, partnerships, and product to understand their needs and set direction for how Zearn’s data can help achieve their goals
