Strategic Communications and Partnerships Manager
The Center for Effective Public Policy (CEPP) envisions a world where justice means strong, healthy communities for everyone. For the last 40 years, we have worked collaboratively with justice system professionals and their partners to improve their systems of justice and facilitate equitable, systemic, and sustainable change.
CEPP’s work focuses on reimagining justice solutions and reducing reliance on incarceration; strengthening communities, improving outcomes for people on community supervision; addressing unique needs, such as justice-involved women and youth; and advancing system change through training, resources, and team-building. Our team members have varied experiences and a deep understanding of justice-related issues. Our office is based in the greater D.C. area, but nearly all staff members work from their home-based locations around the country.
CEPP seeks to add a full-time (remotely located) Manager of Strategic Communications and Partnerships to our team. The successful candidate will guide and implement CEPP’s strategy for external communications, document CEPP’s work for and with various audiences, identify funding opportunities, and lead CEPP’s proposal writing efforts.

Developing and implementing an integrated, organization-wide external outreach and communications plan.
Creating and disseminating materials (reports, handbooks, and other policy tools) for a broad audience on a variety of justice-related topics on which CEPP works.
Translating CEPP’s work and lessons learned across projects into engaging and digestible public education resources (e.g., articles, briefs, FAQs, web content).
Developing content for and maintaining CEPP’s website and social media platforms.
Identifying funding opportunities and writing proposals to successfully support new projects aligned with CEPP’s strategic priorities and programmatic work.
Overseeing public education activities designed to inform justice system professionals and other stakeholders about evidence-based criminal justice policies and practices.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Seven or more years of experience developing and implementing strategies in either non-profit development or communications work.
Deep knowledge about the criminal justice system is preferred.
A successful track record of writing nonprofit grants and securing funding.
Significant experience writing and editing reports, newsletters, position papers, policy briefs, web and social media content, and other communications materials.
Strong and effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, HTML, and Google Suite preferred.
A self-starter who enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a virtual work environment.
