Executive Director
Location: Remote within the US
Libraries Without Borders (LWB US) is an education non-profit that promotes access to information for underserved communities across the United States. As a growing organization, we are looking for an ambitious executive director who is passionate about our programs and will help the organization scale up at the state and national level.
LWB US is part of the international organization Bibliothèques Sans Frontières (BSF), which works to bring knowledge and information to people in need. We design innovative tools and programs that meet people where they are and provide the resources they need most, from laundromats in Baltimore and San Antonio to manufactured housing in Minnesota. We strive to ensure that all people – regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, language, income, physical limitations or geographic barriers – have access to relevant, reliable, and credible information, learning opportunities, and cultural resources.
We are seeking an Executive Director (ED) committed to scaling up our existing programs, developing new programs, leading our team, and fundraising. The ED will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for LWB US’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. In addition to growing the organization’s core programs and operations, the ED will bring proven experience developing and implementing a strategic plan.
As LWB US is part of the international organization BSF, the ED will work in coordination with the international team. The ED will report to the Board of Directors of LWB US.
Responsibilities
Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems for an operating budget of several million dollars;
Set strategic goals for LWB US projects and coordinate policies and management structures that enable LWB US staff to reach its strategic goals;
Ensure the general operation of essential administrative and legal functions;
Work with existing staff, hire additional staff, manage and grow a significant leadership team;
Work with the LWB US Board of Directors, facilitate opportunities for Board engagement, and deliver annual budget and strategic plan to the Board for review;
Manage key partnerships and fundraising, including solicitation of funders, cultivation of key relationships, grant compliance and reporting, and setting annual fundraising goals;
Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and national expansion, including developing new ties with national and state-level organizations, public agencies, and foundations;
Design and manage program staff to execute a strategy to consolidate, improve, and scale up recent pilot programs;
Develop a strategy to scale operations, communications, and advocacy nationally;
Manage the relationship with BSF International and execute a strategy for increased collaboration;
Oversee communications decisions, including branding and media strategy to expand coverage and cement LWB US as a leading national expert;
Represent LWB US publicly through local and national advocacy, public speaking, and writing.
Requirements
5 years experience in senior management positions in either nonprofit or private sector, or equivalent;
Proven record of fundraising experience and the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders;
Track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling an organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth;
Strong communications, marketing, public relations skills;
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget;
Excellent public-speaking and writing skills;
Commitment to LWB US’s mission, vision, and values;
Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
Salary
$85,000 - $100,000
Benefits
This is a full-time grant funded position (exempt), with 100% of health, dental, and vision insurance paid, 50% for dependents; generous paid-time off; and an annual professional development stipend of $3,600.
