Chief Development Officer
Title: Chief Development Officer
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary Range: $100k - $140k Depending on experience
The Opportunity: This is a high-profile opportunity for a dynamic fundraising professional with the ability to lead the philanthropic efforts of an international organization. The Chief Development Officer will lead the planning, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive fundraising program with a proven track record of multimillion-dollar annual development targets including sponsorship, corporate event and general sponsorship, corporate and individual giving, security product sales, and event tickets. They will act as part of the senior leadership team, partnering alongside the Executive Director on all major fundraising activities while leading the development, events, and marketing staff and establishing the proper systems and communications to ensure continued growth.

Elements of the Role:
Development and Strategy
Drive and oversee all fundraising, philanthropic revenue generation, and related stewardship, communication, and event activity and ensure that the Drupal Association achieves its revenue goals
Partner with the leadership team and Board of Directors to refine the fundraising and communications strategy for the organization
Collaborate with the Executive Director to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising and outreach possibilities
Partner with Executive Director to develop an annual development plan
Work closely with the Leadership Team, staff, and Board Members to develop new relationships with funders and deepen existing ones
Cultivate and manage relationships with high-level giving partners and donors
Partner with Chief Operating Officer to track revenue goals and progress
Build strategic partnerships with corporations, foundations, and community organizations
Lead the strategy for DrupalCon event programming and ensure the conference value proposition + program aligns with the Drupal Association’s strategic plan
Community and Engagement
Drive community empowerment and program development to develop resources from diverse stakeholders
Work with the Leadership Team to develop annual communication and editorial calendar
Oversee development and implementation of marketing strategies, social media campaigns, and events while also creating innovative ways to promote awareness and engagement around programming, products, and services
Manage contracts and relationships with external communication and marketing consultants
Management and Oversight
Manage, coach, and train the fundraising and communications + engagement teams
Develop and monitor relevant departmental budgets in collaboration with the COO
Partner with the Operations Team to ensure communications and systems are optimized to meet development objectives
Manage the relationship with the external event production team responsible for the execution of DrupalCon North America
Candidate Qualities
5+ years experience in a Director level role or higher
Success leading, managing, and inspiring high levels of productivity and collaboration amongst a diverse team of at least 5
Proactive and highly motivated, able to work independently without frequent oversight
Understanding of how marketing and events serve revenue generation
Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships across the team
Outstanding presentation and communication skills and experience as a compelling relationship builder and fundraiser
Excellent coalition-building skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a negotiator with sensitivity and appreciation for global, diverse viewpoints and various communication styles
Commitment to establishing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and to developing and retaining talent
Practical ability to get things done; the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide sound decision making
Flexibility, collaborative impulse, and humor
Knowledge of Google applications (Google sheets, Google Docs, etc.)
Knowledge of Salesforce or similar CRM strongly preferred
Location and Travel
Remote work: We are a globally distributed team, but employees must overlap a minimum of 4 work hours per day with standard working hours in the Eastern Standard time zone.
Requires some travel throughout the year for major events as well as donor meetings and staff retreats
Position Type
This position is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. The Drupal Association is committed to building a culturally diverse staff and strongly encourages applications from people of color and underrepresented groups.
