Nonprofit Remote Digest - Issue #606
Tradeoffs is a nonprofit health policy podcast whose mission is to create a trustworthy source of journalism that engages people intellectually and emotionally.
Tradeoffs is a non-profit media company on a mission to help people on Main street, Wall Street and Capitol Hill have smarter health policy conversations. Each week we create a podcast that combines rigorous research and storytelling to help our audience understand the most pressing problems in health care. Most episodes have accompanying explanatory web content and we also have a weekly newsletter featuring breakdowns of health policy research from some of our country’s leading experts.
We spent our show's first season getting to know our audience and refine our content offerings, and now we are ready to grow. We are looking for a Communications Manager to lead audience engagement and growth across all platforms. This full-time position will begin in August 2021 and report to the Chief of Strategy and Operations. The salary range is $70,000-$85,000. We are a remote team spread across the country and this job can be done from anywhere.
While you’ll be provided with strategic guidance, and our editorial team will work closely with you on the content you develop to promote our reporting, we are looking to you to take the ball and run with it. We are a small team trying to learn and grow quickly, so you should be comfortable learning and growing with us, taking risks and setting ambitious goals. Due to production schedules and the nature of news, this position may also be asked to work outside normal working hours.
What you’ll do:
Manage, create and curate content for all of Tradeoffs’ social media platforms.
Provide strategic input and support for website and newsletter content.
Partnerships and Media:
Improve our podcast's visibility by arranging promotional swaps and collaborations with other shows and podcast platforms (such as Spotify, Apple and NPR One).
Build our network of relationships with health policy and health care industry organizations. Understand how our content relates to the needs of their audiences and connect them to relevant content in an ongoing way.
Regularly pitch Tradeoffs team members and stories to media outlets.
Audience Engagement and Impact:
Use a variety of tools and tactics to understand our existing audience and execute effective strategies to engage them.
Develop and maintain a system for documenting our show's impact, including tracking media mentions and conducting audience surveys.
Identify the most meaningful ways to engage our audience and plan and execute these strategies.
Keep an eye on our brand identity and voice, and work with outside vendors like graphic designers to develop new or refreshed assets as needed.
Collaborate with Chief of Strategy to produce Powerpoint decks, one-pagers and other materials marketing Tradeoffs to funders and other organizations as needed.
What you’ll bring:
An ability to write clearly and concisely in a defined voice and style
An interest in diving deep into the U.S. health care system
A knack for translating the wonky and weedy into the amazingly accessible
A passion for podcasts and the power of journalism
At least 4 years experience in communications, audience engagement or public affairs roles
Savvy with social media platforms and web analytics tools
Enthusiasm for experimenting with new marketing tactics
Self starter and team player that wants to be a key contributor to a small, fast paced team
Bonus points if you have basic design (Canva, Photoshop, etc.), Wordpress and/or SEO skills
Don’t feel like you can check every single box above? That’s okay! If you’re passionate about this job, we want to meet you!
