Policy Manager
The Policy Manager will provide advocacy, legislative analysis, coalition-building, and policy analysis around issues related to ending police and gun violence against communities of color and will serve as a liaison on all policy issues for local, state, and federal legislation.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a confident communicator, innovative relationship builder, legislative strategist, and someone with a deep belief in the power of utilizing policy to make tangible and meaningful change. This role will have a somewhat flexible schedule, including an expectation for some evening and weekend work.
Responsibilities Include:
Build and sustain a policy agenda that is comprehensive and uplifts multiple strategies to address gun violence in communities most impacted
Develop draft legislation, key policy messaging policy-focused public statements to aid the legislator community in advancing policy
Monitor and track gun violence-related policy, political updates, or policy events
Monitor and track relevant activity or messaging from policymakers at the federal, state, and priority city levels
Support advocacy efforts to advance legislation at the federal, state, and local levels.
Manage the Policy & Research program budget and policy support staff as hired.
Manage ongoing series of written reports on the topic of community-led violence prevention and the development of other written content regarding community-led violence prevention including blog posts, OpEds, and factsheets.
Daily Activities
Prepare frequent briefing and policy materials, legislative testimony, and legislative language (for bills, appropriations, and authorization).
Monitor gun violence prevention legislation, committee activities and identify opportunities for CJAF to participate in events that advance policy for grassroots organizations on the front lines of preventing gun violence.
Participate in local, state, and national coalitions to address gun violence policy.
Serve as a reference on policy approaches for ending gun violence.
Identify best practices, and trends in the field and in policy circles, and facilitate opportunities to engage and mobilize chapters and partner organizations.
Work with consultants, interns, and fellows to advance policy.
Work with the communications staff to raise the profile of partners with policymakers and offer content for web-based initiatives and social media.
Salary
At least $60,000
