Campaigns Manager
About the position
Creative Commons is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping build and sustain a thriving commons of shared knowledge and culture. Together with an extensive member network and multiple partners, CC builds capacity, develops practical solutions, and advocates for better open sharing of knowledge and culture that serves the public interest.
Primary responsibilities:
Creative Commons’ Campaigns Manager is focused on the production and distribution of marketing and communication materials that expand CC's reach and increase the size of its community. The ideal candidate for this position is a polished writer and strategic communicator, with experience in mission-based campaigns and communications. This person has professional experience in some combination of audience development, marketing, social media, content development, community cultivation, and media relations. The Campaigns Manager will work in a cross-departmental capacity to support campaigns, communications, and the implementation of organizational strategy.
Duties include:
Providing support to CC's staff and network members in implementing the organization’s key strategic theme of “Better Sharing, Brighter Future”
Producing communications for current and prospective donors, particularly in support of our 20th Anniversary capital campaign (2021-2022)
Designing campaigns and communication materials that resonate broadly, drive action, and are focused on expanding the size and breadth of CC's audience
Creating content including blog posts, press releases, email newsletters, social media, and explanatory website content for CC's website
Supporting a vibrant and collaborative online community, and ensuring that CC is employing best practices in its use of community conversation/collaboration tools (e.g. Slack)
Developing and maintaining relationships with journalists who cover CC's work (and open culture generally), and helping pitch press outlets on CC-related news stories
The ideal candidate possesses:
Outstanding writing skills, including the ability to write long and short, and for a variety of audiences
A creative spark, with the ability to create a wide variety of content types on quick turnaround
Experience with some combination of social media publishing, basic video editing, graphic design, and email newsletter marketing
Some familiarity with content management systems (e.g., Wordpress), relationship management software (e.g. Salesforce), data handling (CSV, etc) and basic HTML/wiki markup
An interest in CC's work and legacy, and passion for issues related to open culture
Ability to work in a language in addition to English (is not required but is a plus!)
Strong relationships within the communications sector including journalists and publications

Work Environment and Location
Creative Commons has been a fully-distributed organization since 2015— we have no central office. This position is in a remote working environment and you can be anywhere in the world as long as you’re available for meetings between 13:00 to 17:00 UTC. You must have reasonable mobility for necessary travel (when travel is permitted), and high-speed broadband access. A laptop and peripherals are supplied.
Salary and Benefits
Creative Commons is a leading non-profit employer, offering competitive salaries and benefits, including health and wellness plans, annual retirement contributions, and a positive, supportive work environment. The salary range for this position is $60,000-70,000 USD, commensurate with relevant skills and experience.
