Director of HR & Finance
The Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose vision is “a world where there are no barriers to black healing.” To achieve this vision, BEAM trains and partners with individuals, organizations and grassroots movements to implement healing justice and social justice informed mental health strategies into their communities.
Position: Director of HR & Finance Location: Los Angeles, CA
Summary: BEAM is seeking a Director of HR & Finance to provide thought partnership to the CEO and leadership to the organization.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this newly created role is an opportunity to build and maintain efficient, internal processes and practices that support the BEAM team as we take on vital work in our communities. By supporting our HR infrastructure, you will make space for team members to experience the healing justice we see in the wider world; and by maintaining fiscal compliance, you will support the stability and sustainability of our organization.
Core Responsibilities:
Human Resources
Work closely with our outsourced vendor to manage payroll, benefits administration, HR, and compliance.
Develop and maintain standardized HR processes for hiring, training, onboarding, departures, and evaluation processes.
Lead people-centered HR projects that address BEAM’s strategic priorities.
Interpret personnel policies and procedures for staff on an ongoing basis.
Supervise and support the Executive Administrator.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Direct and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and processes.
Manage operational policies, audits and processes, including, but not limited to BEAM’s accounting and financial policies, as well as internal controls and risk reduction policies/processes.
Finances
Work with our outsourced account to process expense reports, pay bills, support basic bookkeeping and reconcile bank accounts.
Develop and update, on an annual basis, the financial projections in conjunction with the annual budgeting cycle.
Review financial reports, financial statements, and supervise processes with accounting vendor.
Internal Operations
Lead collaboration to build systems that promote growth and sustainability of core business units and operations.
Innovate an approach to ensure accurate, timely, and responsive implementation of operations services and processes.
Oversee vendor and consultant contracts.

Demonstrated commitment to BEAM’s mission and values incorporating both into everyday work.
Experience and passion for serving Black communities.
Knowledge of racial, gender, and LGBTQ health disparities.
Strong interpersonal and people management skills that center assertive, heart centered communication and integrity.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality, accurate work.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines as needs of the organization change and the complexity of the information grows.
Entrepreneurial mindset + self-starter; ability to thrive in ambiguity and lead through change.
Key Experience Desired:

Human resources experience.
Fiscal management experience.
Experience in financial reporting and accounting, including interpreting financial statements, budgeting, and cash management.
Experience managing facilitating a growing budget and infrastructure.
Strong nonprofit and business acumen; proven track record of advancing operations processes to achieve business results and drive organizational mission.
Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Computer literate and skilled in use of MS Windows-based programs, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
Benefits
Compensation: $95,000 annually with full benefits and 401K package.
