Director of Donor Relations
The Opportunity
The Common Place (TCP) invites candidates who are motivated, hard-working, and committed to the mission of TCP to join its leadership team as Director of Donor Relations (DDR). TCP serves children and their families in Southwest Philadelphia through educational programs, social service, collaboration, and faith formation. Our goal is to broaden their horizons through art, music, and faith, while providing nutritious meals and a safe place to be creative, explore their imaginations, and hone their academic skills and talents.
Founded in 2013, TCP has already made a dramatic difference in the lives of hundreds of children and families in Southwest Philadelphia (SWP). The vision of the board of trustees is to help SWP become a flourishing community, addressing the needs of children experiencing the realities of poverty, underfunded, underperforming, and overcrowded schools, and violence.
The leadership of TCP is in the planning stage of a major gifts campaign. This comprehensive campaign will seek funding to:
Establish a high-quality Preschool
Launch a Produce Market
Expand TCP’s After School Program to multiple sites
Acquire and convert blighted lots and properties into Urban Farms
Expand music instruction program
The successful candidate will work with and report to the Executive Director.
The Organization
Located on the corner of 58th Street and Chester Avenue, The Common Place serves children and their families in Southwest Philadelphia through educational programs, social service, collaboration, and faith formation. TCP has a robust offering of community-facing programs from arts-enrichment, academic support, child-care, music instruction, technology education, nutrition and food justice, and youth missions programming.
TCP has a board of trustees that is fully committed, engaged, and deeply involved. With an annual operating budget of approximately $1.2M, TCP is poised to make an even greater impact on the community it loves and serves. An important responsibility for the director of donor relations will be to broaden and deepen the base of donors to TCP.
The Position
This individual will report directly to the executive director and work closely with the executive leadership team and development committee of the board of trustees. TCP is offering a generous and competitive salary package for this full-time position. It is expected that the successful candidate will need to invest 40-50 hours per week, creating initiatives and strategies to meet the immediate and long-range funding goals of TCP. A complete position description is available upon request.
The Person
TCP is seeking an individual who will grow with the organization. She or he must be an entrepreneurial self-starter, highly relational, capable of serving as a member of a team, and able to represent TCP positively in all public interactions. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential for this important role. Attention to detail along with proficiency with Word, Excel, Google Drive, and donor management software are needed. (TCP currently uses Keela, a cloud-based donor management system.) Candidates with a college degree are preferred. This individual must be able to represent TCP with integrity, requiring a cultural fit with a growing, faith-based, multi-ethnic urban organization. If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your resume and references to:
