About the Position
Our funders are vital to our organization’s continued growth. Callisto is currently supported extensively by philanthropy and we are looking for an exceptional development professional who can provide leadership in nurturing existing relationships and forging new relationships and opportunities to expand our fundraising efforts.
Today we are funded by individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors. We’re eager to diversify and grow our philanthropic revenue streams. Our Director of Development will ensure that our past and current funders feel engaged in our mission and growth, while also rapidly prospecting and pursuing new opportunities for funding.
The ideal candidate is a senior leader, creative, a self-starter, highly detail oriented, well organized, and an effective communicator who is capable of responding to rapidly shifting priorities in a fast-paced start-up. This is a unique position because for the near future Callisto will have a fundraising team of one person with the support of the Head of Strategy & Business Development and the Chief Executive Officer. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be able to contribute to the vision and design of the fundraising strategy while also being responsible for its execution. The ideal candidate will have experience and relationships, and will be able to hit the ground running.
Primary Responsibilities
Design and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for fundraising with an emphasis on identifying new donors and fundraising opportunities and a goal of raising a net new $2 million in 2021.
Collaborate with and support the Chief Executive Officer and the Board members on all fundraising initiatives.
Develop strategies for engaging new partners and broadening the organization’s network of prospective individual, corporate or foundation funders.
Identify and develop strategic funding opportunities with potential funders.
Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with existing and new donors and funders.
Implement all campaigns, for example, end of year, monthly donors, etc.
Collaborate with team members to translate programmatic initiatives into fundraising opportunities.
Design and implement an approach to donor management and engagement and draft donor communications.
Draft LOIs, concept notes, and proposals.
Collaborate with and supervise contracts with consultants.
Track funder and donor communications and giving via Salesforce CRM.

Philanthropic Foundations
Your past experience shows a successful track record in securing funding from philanthropic foundations and deep experience preparing grant proposals.
You’ve built relationships with individuals at public and private charitable foundations and program officers and other key decision-makers look forward to hearing from you.
You have created, managed, and grown relationships with foundations.
Major Donor Cultivation
You have expertise in designing and managing outreach to philanthropists and others seeking to support the work of Callisto
You will craft effective written funding requests to existing and potential major donors.
You’ve built a robust network of people seeking to make charitable contributions, and are willing to introduce them to the work of Callisto.
Corporate Philanthropy
You are an expert at designing and managing outreach, communications, and relationships with corporations and businesses.
You consistently craft winning written funding requests to corporate and businesses entities. Bonus if you’ve done this for support similar nonprofits or organizations within the sexual violence prevention and response space.
You’ve built a network of individuals at corporations and businesses and enjoy access to key decision-makers. You’re eager to share the work of Callisto with these individuals.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in development with at least 2 years performing duties similar to the essential skills required for this position; and 10 years of professional experience overall.
Demonstrated leadership/management experience
Strong project management skills
Proficiency with Salesforce CRM
Exceptional writer with strong verbal communication and presentation skills
Strong familiarity with Google’s productivity suite - calendar, docs, sheets, email, etc
Understanding of, and alignment with, Callisto's mission
