Business/Logistics/Operations Pathways Advisor (Remote Consultant)

Contract Duration: 8 weeks

Schedule: 20+ hours/week

Position Overview  

Upwardly Global (UpGlo) seeks an Business/Logistics/Operations (BLO) Industry Advisor to help raise awareness of the internationally trained B/L/O talent pool, including Upwardly Global jobseekers -- and increase opportunities for this population. This individual would assist the organization in planning and mapping a strategy to build key staff industry knowledge and resources, establish a core group of B/L/O sector partners who are ready and willing to understand the tremendous talent that foreign born B/L/O professionals can bring to a sector. UpGlo has a robust jobseeker cohort of legal permanent resident professionals who can fill in many of the vacancies with their talent but recruitment systems are overwhelmed and chaotic on both supply and demand side.

We seek an individual with determination, perseverance and comfort managing a new and lean area of employer outreach and partnership development. This individual - while having to be a self-starter - also needs to be a strong team player with commitment to understand multiple points of view and to collaborate with the program team of B/L/O industry coaches to map out direction and value add to B/L/O industry professionals.

Tasks

  • Inform and help to develop B/L/O career pathways plan, resources and tools in partnership with coaches who work in the industry community of practice.  

  • Map and cultivate access for foreign trained B/L/O professionals to B/L/O networks and companies (in key markets – Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, DC (DMV) in order to contribute their expertise and increase their likelihood to be considered for job openings, in the midst of COVID-19.

  • Connect the resources and assistance provided by Accenture’s pro-bono team to B/L/O team and follow up on high level opportunities.

  • Participate in weekly check-ins with Upwardly Global’s B/L/O team and with leadership, as needed

  • Help map out strategy for B/L/O industry employment opportunities and meaningful “stops on the way” or step up jobs/fellowships/internships, as a resource to job seekers and industry coaches.  

  • Organize symposium for jobseekers, in collaboration with industry team – including stakeholders / employers - to increase the awareness of opportunities for internationally trained B/L/O talent pool. In lieu of executing on the symposium within the contract timeframe set up the building blocks for a symposium so UpGlo team can implement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with B/L/O employer partners to build new hiring pipeline sources.

  • Train B/L/O industry team members on nuances of engaging employers in field and transfer relationships cultivated to team to develop. 

  • Possess full understanding of UpGlo career pathways objectives within the B/L/O industry and understand the range of skills that can be brought to bear to support COVID-19 response and align to labor market trends through the pandemic. 

  • Aid B/L/O industry team members by introducing to and sharing knowledge of how to engage external stakeholders from the industry to continue to resource B/L/O team and job seekers with field expertise.   

  • Attend weekly meetings with B/L/O industry team, and members of program leadership, including VP of Programs to assess project progress.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • 7 + years of business development experience and knowledge of sector and/or recruitment and systems

  • Passion for UpGlo’s mission and ability to represent the organization.

  • Strong negotiation skills and maturity to navigate complex relationships.

  • Proven ability to develop new partnerships and build relationships in the industry environments
