Social Media Manager
The Gender Equality Law Center is a Brooklyn-based legal advocacy non-profit. We are currently seeking to contract with a part-time Social Media Manager to help support our end of year fundraising campaign. We are looking for an experienced social media expert with excellent writing skills and a strong graphic design and aesthetic eye who can help us quickly grow our social media network, and connect with prospective donors and ambassadors to help promote our work, track data analytics, and produce and curate compelling content relevant to our work and mission. This person will understand the power of imagery and content to grow a following, tell a story, and convert followers into supporters.
The Social Media Manager will report directly to GELC’s Director of Development, and, if interested, will have the opportunity to have their writing published on our website while learning firsthand about human rights law and timely cutting edge legal issues focused on issues of equality.
This is a remote position with a slight preference for someone based in NYC (or not currently in NYC but familiar with our local politics) and knowledgeable and informed about movements for racial and gender justice, and issues around LGBTQ+ rights. There will be occasional video-conference meetings with GELC staff.
Responsibilities:
Manage our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and post daily on each.
Grow our social media audiences with clear and proven strategies for optimization.
Draft and create original content (writing, graphic designs, memes, etc) for social media, our newsletter, and website.
Conduct relevant weekly news and headline research for our link round-up emails.
Manage and adhere to a social media campaign calendar of upcoming holidays or events for which we should develop social media campaigns, particularly dates approaching the end of year.
Pull social media analytics and reports to determine and track the impact and effectiveness of specific posts and campaigns.
Qualifications:
Experience managing, developing and curating content for social media platforms, including: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Excellent research, writing, editing, and design skills.
Familiarity with Google Drive, Trello, HootSuite (or other similar tool), Canva (or Adobe Creative Suite). Familiarity with Wix is an added bonus.
Experience setting up linktree on Instagram or the willingness to learn to do so.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a time-sensitive manner and to plan ahead and set-up content distribution over each week.
Equal ability to work as a team as well as independently with fairly full autonomy (with regular check-ins with the Director of Development).
Creative, takes initiative, and possesses excellent interpersonal-communication skills.
Ideally, some experience in non-profit fundraising with an understanding of converting social media followers into donors or ambassadors of the organization.
A demonstrated interest in social justice, gender and racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and/or human rights.
This is a remote position with flexible hours totaling about 5-7 a week at $20-30 an hour. We are looking for someone to start ASAP and to be available through November, December and part of January (this is a 3 month contract position and not—at this time—a staff position).
LGBTQ+, gender non-conforming, and BIPOC folx are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
Please send a resume outlining your relevant experience, a cover letter briefly detailing your interest in the position, 1-3 samples of content that you would post to our social media channels, and a portfolio or other examples of your work, if available.
