Executive Director
The Abundant Life Foundation (ALF) seeks a dynamic Executive Director (ED) who can oversee and participate in all aspects of the organization both in Austin, Texas as well as Roatán, Honduras.
The ideal candidate will bring strong administrative, interpersonal and operational skills; experience with building external relationships and fundraising; the ability to clearly communicate and engage internally and externally with staff, board members, and strategic partners; and the ability to oversee and manage a remote operations team. This position is headquartered in Austin, Texas, with options for telework. Position requires international travel.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000, with additional compensation tied to successful fundraising efforts.
About the organization
ALF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with an unwavering commitment to the Bay Islands of Honduras. ALF has been serving Roatán since 2007 across three initiatives: community development, education and conservation. ALF is proud to be the first in the Bay Islands to undertake a master planned housing and community development project.
Position Description
The ED provides overall leadership for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with the Board to establish organizational strategy and priorities, the ED:
1) Hires and supervises staff and manages a remote operations team in the Bay Islands,
2) Mobilizes, supports, and manages board members,
3) Raises funds and ensures their effective management, and
4) Directs development of organizational infrastructure and processes.
Leadership and Administration
Develops and oversees strategic and operational plans which incorporates goals and objectives working towards the strategic direction of the organization.
Develops and promotes operational and/or organizational partnerships beneficial to ALF’s mission and programs.
Oversees procurement and property management, including license agreements, information systems,
technology, and insurance of ALF Board, staff, and assets. Seeks legal counsel as needed.
Board Relations
Partners with the Boards in Austin, Texas and Honduras in developing strategic, financial, and business plans, including formulation and implementation of organizational policies and strategic initiatives.
Assists Board Chair in preparation of agendas for meetings, and works with Board Chair to provide governance and other trainings to ensure the Board is engaged, informed and supported.
Participates actively in all Board meetings, activities and functions.
Program Development/Management
Provides leadership in developing and implementing programs and strategies to achieve our vision and mission.
Oversees program design, reporting systems, grant adherence, evaluation and assessment systems.
Ensures programs are well-managed using effective project management tools, in accordance with ALF’s policies
and procedures, and any relevant donor regulations/requirements.
External Relations
Establishes relationships and collaborative arrangements with donors, community groups, and corporations in Austin, Texas and Roatán, Honduras.
Oversees organizational image, including website, donor presentation materials, program brochures, and annual reports. Publicizes ALF’s programs, activities and goals through social media.
Assures proper ALF representation at appropriate meetings, workshops, conferences and media.
Fundraising
Secures new sources of funding by cultivating relationships with past, present, and prospective donors.
Accountable for securing resources needed to support the organization's mission and strategic plan through grant
writing, annual campaigns, events, sponsorships, and donor cultivation and stewardship.
In collaboration with the Board, proactively recruits and manages leaders for each initiative and campaign.
Evaluates changing trends in philanthropy to develop and/or improve fundraising programs.
Human Resources Management
Implements legally compliant personnel policies and practices in employee recruitment, compensation program, performance management and disciplinary process, hire/termination process, employee relations and employee benefits for both, Austin, TX and Roatán, Honduras locations.
Determines staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery.
Ensures sound human resource practices are in place, with appropriate provision for succession, and consistently
reviews/adjusts policies and procedures to meet organizational needs.
Maintains a climate that attracts, retains and motivates a diverse staff of quality people.
Financial Management
Assures adequate control and accounting of funds, including developing and maintaining sound financial practices with monthly/annual accounting statements.
Oversees comprehensive accounting policies and procedures; financial analysis, including cash flows; budget management systems; internal and external financial reporting; banking procedures, including any recommended investment strategies.
Works with Board leadership to prepare an annual budget and ensure the organization functions within its financial guidelines and limitations.
Ensures the organization meets all grantor/funder requirements.
Ensures maintenance of updated financial records, documents, licenses, registrations, certifications and insurance
policies for the Austin, TX office and Roatán, Honduras office.
Required Education, Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education/Related Experience
BS/BA, master’s degree preferred.
5 to 7 years of nonprofit or international work experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Energetic and entrepreneurial leader who can work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Experience in a non-profit setting, with a track record in organizational growth and development.
Experience working on fundraising, grant procurement, and grant administration.
Experience in strategic and operational planning.
Ability to lead, coordinate, and communicate with remote teams, board, and external groups.
Experience in program development and the effective use of project management tools.
Experience with capital projects, housing development.
Effective and efficient utilization of time, equipment and materials.
Strong sense of job responsibility, self-motivation and a consistent ability to detect and resolve problem areas.
Spanish language skills, preferred.
