Junior Data Analyst
Climate Nexus is seeking a part-time consultant analyst to work on an exciting new website project focused on current government efforts to bailout the fossil fuel producers and consumers and the climate implications of doing so. The initial contract for this work will be for four months. This position is location-flexible and able to be performed remotely.
Main responsibilities:
Collaborating with a team including an editor, senior analyst, digital marketer, graphic designer, and communications specialists on the best way to disseminate this information to the target audience.
Synthesizing and analyzing available data about the bailout from government sources, as well as private data providers, where possible.
Cataloging which companies are claiming this money and the criteria for doing so, with a specific emphasis on companies with a high emissions profile including those in the fossil fuel, transport, utility, or industrial sectors.
Keeping track of the total amount of public money disbursed to each high-emissions sector over time.
Cleaning data and formatting for presentation on website and social media
Experience:
Basic understanding of finance (what are stocks and bonds?) required
Experience turning around content on daily deadline
Experience working with government agencies and/or corporate PR to obtain and publish news, data, and/or data analysis desired
Skills:
Required:
Experience pulling data from websites (HTML tables etc), cleaning it, importing into spreadsheets
Ability to use Excel and Google Sheets for sorting data and using common formulas
Experience with content management systems
Desired:
Available to work 9 - 2pm Eastern plus flexibility outside of those hours.
Experience with data visualization software
Deeper knowledge of financial data, such as how bonds/bond markets work, using a Bloomberg terminal, reading SEC filings
Experience with Python or another scripting language for data-scraping, e.g. getting data off a website when it's not already in tabular form
Compensation:
This position will be paid between $20-$30 an hour,commensurate with experience. Work hours to be negotiated, but suggested is 20 hours a week.
