Digital Organizer
About the Digital Organizer
This position is part of WFP’s Membership, Organizing, and Radical Education (MORE) department charged with recruiting, nourishing and developing WFP supporters, activists, and dues-paying members. The position for now is through the Fall 2020 election cycle with possibility for extension.
At WFP, we are working to develop organizers that can successfully integrate electoral, relational and digital organizing. Digital Organizers are expected to have excellent relational skills and also be able to implement those using tech tools. As part of the National team at WFP, they will focus on engaging and organizing our supporter base in areas where we don’t have staff or structure already in place. This person will wake up in the morning thinking of new ways to bring people into the Party and be conscious of the gaps that need to be addressed in how we are bringing in supporters nationwide.
This person also will take on roles related to managing and developing volunteer leadership within WFP’s Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Text Team. Through this program, WFP is able to text millions of voters each year about voting for progressive candidates. As the most consistent and virtual way for volunteers to engage electorally with the party, the P2P Text Team is a crucial piece to thinking about how to be developing leadership nationwide. Working with WFP’s Volunteer Manager, this person will play a large role in managing the P2P Text Program, particularly in areas of administering campaigns and volunteer recruitment, development, and leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
WFP Supporter Engagement
Maintain a regular schedule of 1-1 relational meetings with supporters, volunteers and activists (10+ relational meetings/week)
Constantly connect and build our national supporter base through organic social media, texting, calling, and other avenues including: volunteer referral, reaching out to relevant online communities of progressives, blog posts, emails, or p2p texts to volunteer lists.
Bottom line ensuring supporters who reach out to WFP are responded to effectively and in a timely manner, and organized into our ladder engagement and concrete volunteer opportunities
Experiment with engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current volunteers, move them up the WFP ladder of engagement, and deepen their leadership.

Management & Administration of P2P Text Team
Help host text banks for volunteers including teaching volunteers to use our P2P text system
Assist the distributed organizing of WFP by supporting constituency textbanks (ex - Black Text Team) and volunteer-led text banks nationally.
Assist the Volunteer Manager to manage the pipeline of requested and approved peer-to-peer text campaigns from Working Families State Organizations, endorsed candidates and campaigns, and allied organizations/organizers.
Oversee P2P text campaigns as they progress and assess and execute needed changes in messaging, scripted elements, survey questions, or overall goals of the campaign.
Lead texting campaigns through the process of scripting, testing, and execution and help to make sure that voter contact conversations critical to follow-up and information for accessing vote by mail and getting out the vote, are of the highest quality.
Bottom-line a thorough, engaging and responsive onboarding process for new and repeat volunteers.
Cultivate a digital community culture of positivity and inclusion that leads to a diverse, resilient and growing volunteer community.
Work with the Volunteer Manager to identify potential volunteer leaders and lead frequent volunteer meetings and leadership development trainings to elevate volunteers and expand the team’s capacity.
Communicate with teams of volunteers to lay out specific campaign requirements, tasks, and priorities.
Moderating distributed texting campaigns when volunteer moderators are not available or during high volume periods, such as weekends leading up to election day and Get Out the Vote periods.
Additional Responsibilities
Occasionally support and train staff/supporters to use p2p text campaigns and potentially other tools for organizing.
Performs other related duties as assigned, such as supporting the development of our relational organizing program or assisting in the development of a volunteer call program.
Skills and Qualifications
At least 1 cycle or year of experience organizing with volunteers, demonstrated development of volunteer leadership, and leading training.
Strong technology skills including:
Experience with peer-to-peer texting (creating, editing, and administering P2P campaigns - preferably in Spoke, but experience in ThruText, Hustle, or other platforms ok) or other relevant technical experience (ex - uploading lists to and managing another kind of database)
Social media - ideally professional use for recruiting to organizations
Skilled at regular data entry
Experience working with a diverse group of volunteers and supporters across all demographics and backgrounds--especially race, gender and class.
Familiarity with electoral and/or issue campaign tactics, messaging
Demonstrate through past experience a drive to be proactive, innovative and experimental in how you organize.
Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and occasional holidays.
Ability to work under stressful conditions
Demonstrate ability to multitask and change gears quickly and nimbly in a campaign environment.
Belief in leadership development and that growth relies on an individual’s ability to own important projects and achieve success for themselves.
Belief that organizing is about building connections and relationships, and that distributing knowledge and power is key.
Belief that technology should be in service of organizing, not the other way round.
Belief that people collectively planning and working together create better solutions than the individual.
Must have access to strong wifi and good phone reception

Preferred (but not required) skills/qualifications:
Have progressive movement relationships
Familiarity working with VAN or other voter file data
Comfortable using Slack: using channels, direct messages, administrative options and managing users within a Slack workspace.
Experience with organizing and tools used for phonebanking including predictive dialers, broadcast SMS messaging, social media and email/action pages - particularly: Hubdialer, Thrutalk, Upland (Mobile Commons), Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Action Network.
Experience and comfort using EveryAction for tracking volunteer activity.
Experience and knowledge of PostGres databases, SQL queries, and/or Python language.
Strong command of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software.
What Else Should You Know?
The position is full-time and remotely based anywhere in the United States with a preference for Brooklyn, NY, Atlanta, GA, Hartford, CT, Dallas, TX, Milwaukee, WI, Philadelphia, PA, and Washington, DC. When safe to travel, occasional travel to off-site locations for meetings and events will be required. The base salary range for this role will be $50,000 to $60,000 and will be adjusted based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, job description. We also offer excellent benefits, including unlimited vacation days.
