Engagement and Communication Coordinator (Remote)

We do this by increasing engagement and funding to Native-led organizations; increasing and supporting Native professionals in philanthropy; and transforming and influencing the philanthropic sector to be in alignment with an Indigenous worldview.
About This Position
The Engagement and Communication Coordinator will serve as the lead communications coordinator for Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP). The position is solely responsible for coordinating NAP’s communication efforts, publication design and layout, maintaining and growing NAP’s social media presence, and supporting internal and external engagement and communications activities. This position will work with the Executive Director to support the development of a new strategic communications plan that will serve as this position’s roadmap for success. NAP’s new strategic plan seeks to increase awareness among key stakeholders and engage Native and non-Native philanthropic professionals with NAP’s resources, activities, and programs. This person will draft press materials, help with event execution, track news, and support the organization’s overall work. This person will also help drive the organization’s editorial and communications calendar by working closely with all members of the team to ensure communications across the organization.
Subject matter familiarity and prior communications experience in philanthropy is preferred but not required for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Writing and Editing
Write and/or edit materials for social media, media advisories, press releases, and opinion pieces.
Draft, edit, and distribute outreach materials.
Update web site content and related blogging platforms; write new content as needed.
Create an annual report summarizing activities for the year.
Assist with preparing briefing materials, presentations, as needed.
Develop collateral materials for NAP programs and activities (e.g., figures, summary documents, fact sheets, infographics, brochures, etc.).
Project Management
Work with a wide range of people on NAP’s staff, partner organizations, and grantees to address communications needs and tasks.
Coordinate and work with other members of the communications team to advance the goals of the organization —providing guidance and direction as needed.
Preparing and executing monthly social media plans to amplify announcements and stories, as well as active projects.
List management: merge multiple email lists and segment appropriately.
Track press coverage on developing stories and campaigns related to Indigenous philanthropy, including print, digital, social, and broadcast.
Respond and coordinate press inquiries.
Creative Facilitation
Create layout and manage digital and print production for NAP publications.
Produce digital newsletters, including soliciting content and maintaining mailing list.
Ensure all public-facing products conform to NAP’s brand identity, including templates for presentations, documents, fact sheets, etc., and ensure staff are applying branding/identity principles to products.
Co-develop (with staff) new creative ways of disseminating reports and other written materials to increase reach and impact.
Provide graphic design support on communication materials.
Image selection and editing for blogs, social media posts, etc.
Audience and Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain strong and helpful relationships with partner organizations to continue strengthening NAP’s reputation as a resource.
Monitor NAP’s engagement email, disseminating or responding as needed.
Provide administrative and logistical support for the planning and execution of engagement activities targeting a variety of participant and stakeholder groups.
Organizing and facilitating virtual meetings and events (i.e., webinars).
Providing additional communications and outreach support as needed.
Once candidate gains experience and strong background in NAP programs and strategy, represent NAP at in-person and virtual conferences and meetings in support of the Executive Director.
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least three years professional work experience in a field related to communications; strong journalism or marketing experience a plus.
Strong understanding of, and familiarity with, tribal communities and issues.

You are proficient in Microsoft Office and using web-based platforms.
You have experience supporting the planning and organization of virtual meetings and events.
You have demonstrated the ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks under tight or shifting deadlines.
Your track-record of success includes working with new and traditional media.
You are solutions-driven, a self-starter and self-managing.
In addition, it would be a bonus if…
You have experience working with the philanthropic sector.
You have a familiarity and comfort with communications management platforms (CoSchedule, MailChimp, Canva, Zoom, etc.), Wordpress or similar platform, and Google apps.
You have prior experience working on a campaign or advocacy organizations.
You have experience interacting with reporters and directly pitching press.
You have basic graphic design (eg. image manipulation) and page layout skills -- however, position does not require advanced graphics/layout skill.
