Grant Writer
Position: Grant Writer, Development Department
Reports to: Associate VP of Development
Employment Type: Short term, Contract. Estimated 8-10 hours/week.
Pay Range: $20/hour. Will consider retainer contract after successful completion of pilot grant applications. Contract not to exceed $15,000 total in 2020.
Duration: May or June – December 2020.
In an effort to triple its fundraising capacity, Population Media Center (PMC) is looking to engage the services of a Contract Grant Writer. This individual will be responsible for managing a portfolio of 10-15 existing grant applications as needed; and a portfolio of prospects with the potential to give $25,000 and above with a new business development goal of $250,000. The Grant Writer is responsible for handling all aspects of developing successful grant proposals, coordinating input across the organization as needed and responsible for all post reporting associated with funded grants including scheduling and calendaring with the appropriate colleagues.
Who You Are:
You have direct experience and a proven track record in grant writing in a nonprofit with similar mission to PMC.
Ability to prove successful grant applications with a portfolio of examples and/or references.
Your passion or experience grant writing for PMC’s issue areas of social behavior change, population, the rights of girls and women, and the environment are reflected in successful grant applications.
You’re tech savvy, proficient in MS Office programs, and adept at using CRM systems to research foundation prospects while tracking moves management of prospects in Salesforce and other tools as needed.
Adaptable to working in a rapidly transforming global office environment and culture.
Disciplined, detailed, self-driven and goal oriented, able to set and achieve goals working in a virtual/remote environment.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Write, revise and finalize grant applications, working with Associate VP of Development (AVP) and/or other staff as deemed appropriate.
Follow up on request approvals and denials.
Maintain grant resource moves management tracking system in CRM or other platforms as requested.
Responsible for creating and submitting reports to funders as needed outlining use of funds and outcomes of programs funded.
Follow up on informational requests from funders.
Partner with AVP to achieve $250,000 budgetary goal for new grant applications through single or multiple grants achieving successful funding
Promote a positive image of PMC in the community when interfacing with grant managers, bringing in AVP or others as needed to answer questions.
Maintain ongoing communication with grant managers.
Identify grant opportunities in coordination with AVP from private foundations, corporate foundations, family foundations, corporations, and other organizations.
Coordinate research on potential grant funders and seek to determine where potential donor interests align with needs and opportunities of Population Media Center.
Draft proposals and other correspondence to solicit grant funds for review by AVP.
Work with funders to ensure that our submissions meet all stated requirements and guidelines in a timely manner.
Develop and cultivate contacts among funders and potential funding sources.
Ensure that proposals and grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion (on deadline).
Attend regular meetings with AVP or Development Department as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
3+ years of related fundraising experience in the non-profit sector.
Proficiency in Windows OS and MS Office software, especially Word and Excel.
Proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM systems.
Able to communicate effectively and persuasively with internal and external audiences—orally, in writing and through a number of mediums.
Able to work on concurrent assignments and meet deadlines for multiple departments.
Experience using Foundation Directory or other prospect research tools.
Detail oriented, high performer who is goal driven and not intimidated by ambitious annual campaigns.
Highly Desirable:
Experience with Office 365 and/or Mac OS
Prospect Research and Identification experience.
Location:
Telecommuting from major U.S. city, preferably a target market for PMC.
