Vice President of Development and Communications

We’re seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, self-motivated fundraiser and communications expert to help lead L4GG as it enters a tremendous period of growth. The person who succeeds in this role will have excellent fundraising skills, particularly with respect to major donors and oversight of grants, and expertise in media relations, branding, and supporter communications. They will also have finance and administration expertise to help the Executive Director (ED) run internal operations, the ability to quickly learn and manage digital tools, and an aptitude for working well in start-up environments. This is an opportunity for an experienced nonprofit executive to play a key leadership role and help shape and grow a dynamic start-up nonprofit. The position includes significant responsibility, opportunities, and a six-figure salary and reports to the ED.

Specific Development job responsibilities include:

  • Create annual revenue budget

  • Ensure organization meets revenue goals by owning three of four revenue streams and closely work with ED on other: Manage major donor, grants, and supporter (email and direct mail) programs; work with ED on potential sponsorship program 

  • Grow and manage major donor program including personally handling all aspects from prospecting through gift acknowledgment; be prepared to hire and supervise major donor staff depending on program growth

  • Grow and manage grants program by identifying potential foundation supporters, working with ED on relationship development, and supervising external grantwriter as needed 

  • Communicate with board of directors about fundraising and work with board members to meet individual and organizational development goals

Specific Communications job responsibilities include: 

  • Create and execute ongoing communications plan

  • Increase L4GG’s exposure in the press

  • Supervise external consultants as needed

  • Hire and supervise staff as budget permits

  • Manage brand standards

  • Track media coverage and other communications performance metrics; provide regular summaries to staff and board of directors

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will have top-notch interpersonal skills, judgment, and the ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours. 

Required qualifications include:

  • Commitment to our organization’s mission

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills

  • At least 10 years of experience in nonprofits with five years in senior management

  • Extensive fundraising expertise and experience including proven track record of personally soliciting gifts of $25,000 or greater

  • Experience handling media relations at a nonprofit organization

  • Understanding of brand standards and enforcement

  • Experience using Google G-Suite

  • Exceptional technology comfort and competence including willingness to embrace new tools and self-train using provided resources as needed

  • Consistent attention to detail 

  • Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and escalate issues to ED as appropriate

  • Ability to start employment by April

Desired qualifications include:

  • Experience with L4GG’s programmatic issue areas

  • Experience with any or all of the following digital tools: EveryAction, Airtable, Action Network, Dropbox, Zapier, GoToWebinar, Hootsuite, Basecamp, GrooveHQ
