About The Justice Collaborative
The Justice Collaborative (TJC) is a team of legal experts, researchers, journalists, and media strategists working across a collection of aligned projects that share the common goal of bringing human dignity and restraint to our deeply flawed criminal justice system. Among the projects at TJC is The Appeal, an editorially independent news publication covering criminal justice issues.
Criminal justice policy is built upon a maze of local, state, and federal laws and procedures. We supply deep legal, policy, and communications expertise to cut through the complexity and confusion. Our work empowers, educates, and supports a community of leaders, problem-solvers, and allies, both outside the system advocating for change and inside reform-minded offices determining the fate of individual people thousands of times every day.
We are fighting for a criminal justice system that monitors and incarcerates as few people as necessary for as little time as necessary to keep our communities safe. We want a system that is tightly coupled to physical safety, recognizes that every person has inherent worth and potential for change, treats each person with dignity and respect, and does not squander limited resources that should be used for other services and programs better suited for creating healthier and safer communities.
The Justice Collaborative is a fiscally sponsored project of Tides, a non-profit 501(c)(3), and Tides Advocacy, a non-profit 501(c)(4).
