Marketing and Community Manager
Hack.Diversity is transforming the economy by breaking down barriers for Black and Latinx professionals in tech. We recruit and place early-career professionals from marginalized backgrounds into software engineering, data analysis, and mechanical engineering roles at major companies, and work with those companies to build inclusive and equitable working environments. Founded in 2016 as a project of the New England Venture Capital Association, “Hack” has grown into an independent nonprofit organization and a movement of belonging in the tech workplace. We are on track to connect almost 400 Fellows into jobs at more than 50 employers to date. At Hack, we believe in a world where success is not limited by access, and where the jobs of today and tomorrow create opportunity for ALL.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Marketing and Community Manager plays a key cross-functional role to evangelize and elevate the reputation of Hack.Diversity, and build community for both current and prospective stakeholders (Fellows, Alumni, Mentors, volunteers, advisors, staff etc.). They will do this through strategizing and implementing communications and marketing plans, curating remote and in-person events and community initiatives, and stewarding relationships with purpose-aligned organizations.
This role currently sits within the org-wide Marketing/Strategy team, which supports the city-based teams and the Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) team. 
Marketing & Communications (50% time)
  • Develop and execute strategies to build brand awareness and recognition, generate leads, maintain current audience relationships, and increase audience sizes across Hack.Diversity’s social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Meta, Medium, website, etc.), including but not limited to:
  • Copywriting: newsletters, event recaps, organizational thought leadership, press releases, social toolkits, and impact reports
  • Developing content calendars and posting relevant content across all of Hack.Diversity’s social media platforms
  • Designing integrated campaigns around key programmatic projects, announcements, and events
  • Monitoring industry trends and discussions for opportunities to feature and represent Hack
  • Monitor and manage the Hack.Diversity website and SEO
  • Monitor, respond to, and outreach to audiences via Hack.Diversity social and digital platforms and community forums
  • Deliver analytics reports detailing social reach and engagement on a monthly basis, or as requested
  • Design and/or collaborate with graphic design, web, photography, and videography resources to produce brand-aligned content, and event assets as needed (e.g. invitations, posters, signage, swag)
  • Pursue and secure earned media coverage to spotlight Hack.Diversity’s work, impact, and Fellows
Community Building & Management (50% time)
  • Monitor and maintain engagement within Hack.Community Slack (~800 members currently), through posting regular updates from Hack and responding to comments, direct messages, mentions, and shares in a timely manner
  • Recruit a coalition of Mentors (seasoned professionals in tech economy) to pair one-on-one with each Fellow to support Fellows’ progression through the program
  • Nurture strong network connectivity amongst Hack stakeholders — Fellows, Alumni, Mentors, volunteers, advisors, staff etc. — through activities such as:
  • Planning, curating, and attending regular meet-up events serving a variety of stakeholder interest areas (e.g. innovation, tech, career development, racial equity, diversity, inclusion)
  • Iterating on current Hack.Community traditions and establishing new ways of connecting, celebrating, recognizing, and ensuring continued brand affinity from Hack.Community members
  • Seek new opportunities for Hack.Diversity to gain visibility, including but not limited to: co-branding with purpose-aligned organizations, earned media coverage (print and digital media), and award recognition
  • Network and develop relationships with purpose-aligned organizations, including but not limited to: social justice groups, high schools, scholarships, support services, community organizations, neighborhood development

  • Commitment to the mission of Hack.Diversity and values of racial equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI)
  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • Creating and managing social media strategy (including, but not limited to: Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Meta) and campaigns to achieve growth in audience size, engagement, and business bottomline
  • Hootsuite, Later, and/or other social media management platforms 
  • Canva or other graphic design platform 
  • Energized to seek out and actively participate in any and all opportunities to network and put the spotlight on the value propositions of Hack
  • Creative and meticulous event planner and facilitator, consistently motivated to achieve welcoming, respectful, thought-provoking, and joyful audience experiences
  • Confident public speaker in both virtual and in-person settings to audiences ranging from youth to executives
  • Strong writer, storyteller, and copy editor, with consistent attention to call-to-actions
  • Knowledgeable of trends in tech, innovation, and workforce development
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic and lean organization
  • Have awareness of and/or established relationships with mission-aligned organizations focused on racial equity, entrepreneurship, and workforce development
  • Proficient in using Adobe Creative Suite and Google Suite
  • Lived experience, ability to relate to our Fellows’ experiences in some way, and/or demonstrated commitment to serving and centering Black & Latinx populations
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working within fast-growing startups and/or nonprofits
Salary and Benefits
USD $60,000 - USD $90,000 / year
  • $60,000 - $90,000 base salary commensurate with experience and potential, plus up to 10% annual bonus based on performance
  • Time-off benefits: 20 vacation days, 19 paid Holidays, and flexible Fridays all year-long
