Overview of the Human Rights Foundation
HRF is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies. Our work includes effective campaigns to free political prisoners, world-class events such as the Oslo Freedom Forum, and programs such as Flash Drives for Freedom that publicize human rights violators and directly support dissidents and human rights defenders at risk.
Overview of the position
Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Development and Strategy Officer, the Vice President of Development and Strategy will manage development efforts for the Human Rights Foundation.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee Development Strategy by setting annual fundraising goals, devising campaign strategies, creating systems for organizing donation data, and implementing best development practices
- Develop and maintain relationships with all donors (individual, foundations, and corporations) and manage the stewardship thereof to foster donor retention, move donors into higher giving tiers, and increase overall giving
- Create and execute an outreach strategy (including communications, event invitations, calls, and in-person visits) for HRF’s base of donors
- Develop and track grant proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
- Manage internal reporting to assess development progress, analyze KPIs and campaign effectiveness, and measure progress toward annual fundraising goals
- Oversee donation and donor data management via CRM database
- Work with the Communications Team to launch marketing campaigns to gain new supporters, improve digital engagement across social platforms, and boost event attendance
- Work with the finance team to ensure development and revenue data are appropriately synched
- Present quarterly revenue reports to C-level staff, including upcoming action items/recommendations for Chief Development and Strategy Officer, President, and CEO
- Help organize special events for donors and key supporters
Qualifications
- BA (required), MA (a plus)
- 7-10 years of experience in development in a non-profit setting
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
- Demonstrated excellence in fundraising
- Strong knowledge of Development and Donor CRM and software
