Founded in 2009, Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC) is a global alliance of individuals, organizations, businesses, and policymakers working toward a more just, equitable world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on humans, animals, waterways, oceans, and the environment. PPC has grown in the past twelve years to become a broad coalition of more than 1,200 Coalition business and organization members, and over 13,000 individual members, working across the globe in 75 countries on 6 continents.

  • Individuals and systems embody zero-waste values of reusability and durability so plastic pollution is reduced at the source: in use and production.

This is a great opportunity for a Development & Events Coordinator to join a non-profit organization working to make a real difference in the world. 
The successful candidate will support a broad range of fundraising functions and support the growing development team. This position will play an integral part of a cohesive, highly motivated team and will work in a fast paced and collaborative environment. 
Event Coordination
  • Draft invitations and assist with sending; track responses & attendance levels
  • Draft follow up logistics emails
  • Track sponsorship pledges & fulfillment 
  • Thank attendees for participation & financial support
  • Assist with event planning & logistics 
  • Assist with the writing and submission of email appeals, acknowledgements, donor news, reports, and proposals
  • Manage email appeal process, including year-end fundraising and donation pages
  • Collaborate with various departments to plan fundraising events, including invitations, RSVPs, and follow up
  • Ensure the team meets deadlines for proposals & reports
  • Manage passwords for online portals for grant applications
Tracking & Acknowledging Donations 
  • Record & track donations, grants, and other income to ensure it is accurately coded and accounted for on a daily basis
  • Prepare thank you letters for donations and grants
  • Manage grant agreements, ensuring timely signatures, returning signed documents, and filing all grant documentation such as agreements, letters, and checks 
  • Enter donations into the database (CiviCRM)
Stewardship & Donor Cultivation
  • Steward relationships with small-level and mid-level donors
  • Prepare a quarterly email for donors to share success stories
  • Prepare an informal annual report
  • Respond to general donor inquiries via email and phone or pass questions on to other team members  
  • Research a donor’s capacity to give and their other philanthropy via iWave and other research tools
  • Research foundations’ giving via Foundation Directory Online, foundation websites, and other sources
  • Monitor media outlets for relevant news about philanthropy and opportunities for grants 
Support the Development Team 
  • Ensure data integrity through accurate data entry and ongoing clean-up efforts
  • Develop data visualization and evaluation tools (dashboards, reports, etc.) to support the team’s individual giving campaigns and institutional gifts work
  • Generate clear, action-oriented meeting notes for the department & enter follow up items into
  • Schedule meetings with donors
  • Screen and evaluate potential new products and platforms, and serve as the primary point of contact for external sales representatives
  • Participate as a team member on special projects or company-wide initiatives as requested
  • Additional administrative support as needed

  • 1-3 years experience as a Development Associate/Assistant/Coordinator for a non-profit organization
  • Excellent spelling, writing, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in either Excel or Google Sheets
  • Highly skilled at juggling and prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to problem-solve and take ownership of assigned tasks
  • A professional demeanor
  • Discretion in maintaining confidential information 
  • High degree of ethics and standards of personal conduct
  • 1-5 years of professional work experience in a remote office environment
  • Event planning experience
  • Experience using Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Calendar) and a high-level of proficiency in Google Sheets is strongly preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Word & Excel 
  • Experience coordinating events a plus
  • Self-motivated with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and software environments (existing familiarity with project-management, Slack, and CRM databases is a plus)
  • Pro-active with the ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Flexibility to respond and adapt to a fast-paced work environment in a non-traditional office structure
  • Good sense of humor and positive attitude
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred
  • Passion and dedication to PPC’s vision of a world free from plastic pollution is appreciated
Development Director
All staff of PPC work remotely, although we prefer this position to be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $50K to $70K, commensurate with qualifications and experience. PPC also offers a comprehensive benefits program, including employer-sponsored health insurance and paid time off including vacation, holidays, personal days, parental and sick leave. This is an exempt position.
