Provide seeks an experienced and dedicated professional to lead and develop the financial management of an evolving organization. The Senior Director of Finance is responsible for creating and maintaining appropriate infrastructure for efficient financial processes for ensuring effective practices in the following areas: finance and budgeting.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) remote work position open to applicants based in the United States. The Senior Director of Finance reports directly to the Executive Director. As the Senior Director of Finance, this individual is a key architect and manager of financial infrastructure, working in close partnership with senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead Financial Management – 80%
- Ensures timely, clear and accurate preparation of budgets and financial reports
- Analyze, prepare and present financial and budget reports including monthly financial statements and quarterly budget reports for executive and managing directors and department leaders.
- Administer and oversee the annual budgeting and quarterly budget adjustment process; prepare annual and adjusted budgets; monitor progress and keep senior leadership informed of the organization’s financial status.
- Support managing directors and department leaders in the departmental quarterly budget adjustment process; train new leadership in processes to monitor and adjust departmental budgets.
- Lead the preparation of budgets and financial reports related to fund development requests and reporting.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Assist the Executive Director to effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to staff and the Board of Directors.
- Prepares for and leads annual examination of the financial records, accounts, business transactions, accounting practices, and internal controls of a charitable nonprofit by an independent auditor. Supports the Board of Directors to periodically assess and procure audit services consistent with industry best practices.
- Work directly with the Board Treasurer to prepare agendas and lead quarterly meetings of the Board Finance Working Group.
- Leads the review, creation and management of financial systems, seeking to promote efficiency and responsiveness to evolving organizational needs
- Create, analyze and report on indicators on the financial health of the organization.
- Implement upgrades to organizational financial practice and infrastructure, as necessary based on organizational needs.
- Oversee the management of organizational investments in accordance with the Board approved organizational investment policy and strategy; keep senior leadership and the Board informed of investment status and performance.
- Improve and maintain Financial Controls Manual and other procedural manuals.
- Leads and oversees all staff through monthly expense and reimbursement reporting with Expensify.
- Effectively performs critical accounting tasks
- Administer payroll and all employee benefits.
- Ensure approval and correct allocation of organizational expenses.
- Manage accounts payable, cash disbursements, accounts receivable and cash receipts.
- Manage and maintain accounting files.
Oversee Administration – 15%
- Coordinates and oversees consultant and vendor contracts for the entire organization.
- Assists HR Consultant with benefits selection/administration, interfacing with vendors.
- Maintains responsibility for agency compliance with federal and state business registrations, payroll tax accounts, charity registrations, insurance and all personnel matters.
Perform additional team responsibilities - 5%
- Attend team meetings via video conference regularly and with enthusiasm to foster creative collaboration and shared problem solving.
- Represent Provide at conferences and coalition meetings as requested.
- Serve as a public representative of Provide as requested.
- 9-10 years of work experience in complex nonprofit financial systems and administration required.
- Fluency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- High level of computer literacy, including confidence using Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, Expensify and Asana or similar project management tool.
- Experience with final responsibility for the quality and content of financial data, reporting and audit coordination.
- Highly developed judgement, decision-making and problem recognition and resolution skills.

- Track record in nonprofit finance, grants management and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to translate financial concepts to – and effectively collaborate with – colleagues with and without a background in finance.
