Director of Programs
National Cristina Foundation (NCF), a nonprofit private operating foundation with a focus on digital inclusion, is in the midst of a pivot in its mission. We’re looking for a highly motivated, creative, details-oriented, and curious person with experience in the digital inclusion space to join our growing team and lead NCF’s programmatic work.
The Director of Programs will serve in a key senior leadership role, responsible for bringing the Foundation’s new work to life. It is the first of three new full-time staff positions to be added in 2020. 
While our home office is located in New Hampshire, NCF is a fully remote organization, and the Director of Programs is free to work from anywhere in the continental United States. It is expected that job duties will require occasional travel, so proximity to a major airport is a plus.
General Description
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with NCF staff and a very engaged Board of Directors, the Director of Programs will:
  • With input and insight from the Executive Director and Programs Committee, lead the design, execution, management and evaluation of NCF programs.
  • Serve as a key external face of NCF in the digital inclusion space.
  • Provide hands-on, active leadership of NCF’s backbone support for the nonprofit computer refurbisher community, the Alliance for Technology Refurbishing and Reuse (AFTRR).
  • Participate in research into the AFTRR community, as well as NCF’s wider network of 1,300 nonprofit partner organizations and the even wider national community of digital inclusion practitioners, developing a thorough understanding of the digital inclusion landscape, its key actors, trends, commonalities, pain points and barriers to success.
  • Identify opportunities, design programming, lead projects, and develop publications with a goal of strengthening the work of practitioners and making digital inclusion initiatives, locally, regionally, and nationally, more effective.
  • Oversee NCF’s online technology donation platform and collaborate with IT staff to monitor its effectiveness, improve functionality, and ensure a positive experience for donors and partner organizations.
  • Develop ways to foster communication, facilitate the sharing of ideas, and identify areas of opportunity among NCF’s network of nonprofit partner organizations.
  • Contribute to the identification of funding sources and development of funding proposals.
  • Serve as a thought leader and vocal proponent of digital inclusion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
  • Thorough understanding of the factors that contribute to the digital divide.
  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, implementing and successfully operationalizing innovative programs.
  • Strong project management skills; experience managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources and develop hypotheses and conclusions.
  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with IT staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems.
  • Experience working remotely; demonstrated ability to operate independently with little oversight.
  • Ability to thrive in an ever-changing environment and operate effectively, even in times of ambiguity.
  • Unshakable positive attitude, warm personality and great sense of humor.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for NCF’s mission.
  • Familiarity with or experience working within a collective impact initiative to achieve social change is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum BA/BS degree, advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience working in or around issues related to digital inclusion, with at least 3 years of senior management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of modern business tools such as G-Suite or Microsoft Office, Slack, video chat, project management, CRM and other platforms.
Supervisory Duties
The Director of Programs will oversee the work of a full time Program Officer, and may also have other direct reports as the work takes shape and the organization evolves.
About National Cristina Foundation’s Evolving Work
A pioneer in the concept of technology reuse, National Cristina Foundation (NCF) has been working to close the digital divide since 1984. Over these years, NCF has leveraged used technology to help tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people in need gain access to education, opportunity, and hope.
In recent years, NCF has focused the majority of its time and resources on connecting donors of used computers with nearby organizations that utilize technology to help those with disabilities, underserved communities, veterans, and particularly vulnerable segments of the population. NCF has also served in a backbone support role for a national community of nonprofit computer refurbishers, each doing similar work: obtaining computers after their first life in a home or corporate setting, and preparing them for a second useful life supporting those in need.
In fall of 2019, the NCF Board of Directors elected to broaden the Foundation’s mission, pivoting away from the hands-on work of placing individual pieces of donated technology. Instead, NCF will focus more widely on building national awareness of digital inclusion, convening communities of digital inclusion practitioners, and developing projects and programming to strengthen local and regional initiatives surrounding broadband connectivity, access to computers, skills development, and ongoing support.
