Communications Editor
We’re currently inviting applications for a Communications Editor to join our team to produce organisational communications that reach our target audience. This is an exciting new role that will be part of shaping the growth and development of MobLab’s communications.
We know it’s important that our staff have deep connections and experience with the diversity of people, organisations, and movements our trainings can support. As such, we especially seek applications from people from the Global South, people of colour, women, LGBTQ people, and disabled people.
If this sounds like the role for you, but you feel unsure about applying, please feel free to get in touch with our recruitment partner, Kaytee Ray-Riek, at [email protected]
About the Mobilisation Lab
Mobilisation Lab equips social change campaigners and their organisations with the transformative, collaborative, and participatory approaches they need to drive large-scale systems change for a just, equitable and sustainable world. We work with a wide range of changemakers, from technologists and academics to organisers, with a focus on changemakers and leaders experimenting with new and emerging practices to accelerate social justice globally. We:
  • Train, coach, and support leadership teams and their boards to become more collaborative, participatory, and transformative in order to meet the demands of a more complex world.
  • Train, coach and support formal and informal leaders actively seeking to improve their organisation’s cultures, behaviours and systems over time.
  • Facilitate and train advocacy campaigners and their teams lacking the skills and support to design and deliver more transformative, collaborative and participatory campaigns.
  • Convene spaces for peer learning and undertake thought leadership initiatives to challenge the various actors within the social change ecosystem to run organisations, design campaigns, and award funding in ways that shift power, tackle root causes, and centre people.
Our vision is that every individual, organisation, and movement working for a just, equitable and sustainable planet has what they need to transform systems of injustice, inequity and planetary destruction.
About the role:
We’re a small, dispersed team working virtually in a startup environment. This means that the work can be fast paced, and is often varied. We make mistakes and are figuring things out, so we learn as we go and adapt to what’s working (and what’s not). We are passionate about what we do and happy to pitch in where needed across the team. We’re looking for someone who will thrive in this environment.
The communications editor’s mission is to produce cutting edge, engaging and human-centred communications to grow our top of funnel audiences, engage existing ones, and equip them with the information, stories and resources they need to be effective. You’ll also produce organisational communications, ensuring our work is reaching the people it needs to, building our “brand”, and supporting top of the funnel business development.
  • Design, develop, and implement a digital communications programme to support digital engagement strategy that engages MobLab’s audiences and in programmes and services
  • Curate content for Mobilisation Lab’s digital communications
  • Produce and publish exciting, engaging and accessible email and social media content
  • Produce blogs, videos and other digital media to grow and engage our audiences and support MobLab programmes
  • Deliver social engagement for above
  • Maintain writer relationships globally and build new ones for occasional story or case study production
  • Commission, edit and publish stories, blogs, and case studies as needed

Benefits
MobLab is building out benefits in line with our values. We are happy to discuss these with you during an interview.
Our values and how we work
We believe the “how” matters. This means that MobLab is committed to working in a way that reflects the world we’re trying to create – one that is sustainable, equitable, and peaceful.
We expect all team members to be:
  • Aware of how systemic injustice operates in our society (things like economic inequality, racism and heterosexism). We’re committed to collective liberation and are looking for people who are excited to be part of a team that is exploring how to best practice this in our team, through the work we do, and in wider society.
  • Well organised, solutions-oriented and accountable. This means you’ll work well under pressure, prioritise and project manage a varied and fast-paced workload, and deliver to deadline.
  • Comfortable working in a small, dispersed, global organisation. This means you’re an excellent communicator, flexible, highly collaborative, you respond positively to new challenges, and are able to work across differences and find common ground.
  • Open to being wrong and learning. You’re a keen learner with a low ego, able to absorb constructive criticism, work with negative data, and when things go wrong, you’re excited because you’re learning. You love asking for help and input, and are always open to ideas from others.
If you’re excited by this role, our values, and how we work – we hope you’ll apply!
