Communications Director
We are seeking an experienced communications professional to lead our communications team. The Communications Director is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies (including social media, email marketing, and website) to highlight and promote the organization’s programs and values. The Communications Director is in charge of telling the organization’s story through our various marketing efforts and will advance our mission by working with the BlinkNow team and other stakeholders to amplify and coordinate a consistent messaging strategy to all constituents of the organization. This team member oversees the Public Relations Director and the Communications Manager to ensure the right message is being broadcast to the world, and new audiences are continuously sought out. The Communications Director will work remotely and report to our Executive Director who is based in Washington, DC.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide clear organizational direction for the creation of content, both written and visual.
  • Oversee all online communications for the organization. Regularly develop and collaborate on messaging for multiple communication channels (i.e. press releases, social media copy, marketing materials, and development content).
  • Lead the social media strategy for the communications team. Ensure that the organization is implementing an eye-catching social media strategy that builds the organization’s stature online in a measurable way.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to create compelling social media content (e.g. videos, daily stories, infographics and data stories, etc.) for external audiences. Ensure content is posted frequently enough to maximize engagement and grow the organization’s following.
  • Oversee management of BlinkNow’s website. Ensure content is kept up to date, new blog posts are regularly published, and the UX design is optimized for maximum engagement with users.
  • Provide in-depth data analysis (via Google Analytics/Facebook Analytics/Hotjar) of the effectiveness of all online efforts, and feed this information back into the communications strategy.
  • Assist with drafting and editing of funding proposals, fact sheets, annual reports, emails for supporters
  • Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all electronic collateral including, but not limited to, annual reports, fact sheets, program highlights, emails, e-newsletters, and other collateral materials designed to earn support for BlinkNow’s work.
  • Maintain organizational brand standards and organizational identity across all communications.
  • Work across key departments to set the organization’s email marketing strategy. Create a multi-faceted plan to engage with supporters at key points, and provide input on how to best segment our audience with individualized messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team, particularly on external facing materials such as fundraising appeals, and help to generate ideas to expand the organization’s audience and its supporters.
  • Contribute to methodology by which we measure the impact of BlinkNow’s work and 
  • gather and report on various metrics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience preferred
  • In-depth understanding of our three main social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram,
  • Twitter)
  • Possess exceptional, versatile writing skills—the sort of top-tier, detail-oriented writer and editor others turn to for advice
  • Possess a diverse range of communications skill sets, including marketing, communications campaign management, media relations, visual branding, editing, website management, and social media management
  • Prior experience managing communications staff and relationships with multiple external consultants, including web developers, graphic designers, photographers, and videographers
  • You are a data lover who is constantly seeking out metrics and feedback to evaluate progress and impact
  • Collaborative, cooperative, and supportive work style
  • Prior experience building a strategic communications plan that targets multiple stakeholder audiences and leverages traditional, digital, and social media platforms
  • Ability to work independently with multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to gather, understand, and synthesize information from a variety of sources
  • Strong leadership skills and exceptional EQ
  • Track record as a problem solver with the ability to manage multiple day-to-day priorities at once
  • Familiarity with online tools including Google Analytics, Google Suite management, Google Ads, and basic HTML and CRM experience
  • Moderate coding knowledge preferred
  • Experience using Salesforce a plus
  • Graphic design experience a plus
