Grant Budget Analyst
The Grant Budget Analyst play a key role in the annual financial planning process and provides strategic analysis for on-going monitoring of department budgets and quarterly reforecasting of results. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer in the interim, s/he is responsible for the compilation and analysis of the organizational budget and re-forecasts, including all monthly reporting and analysis. The position takes the lead on proposal budget development, donor reporting and financial analysis along with projects as requested by the Controller and Senior Leadership.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manage the annual budget process for the organization, including developing calendars, templates, training and preparing financial and narrative documents for presentation to Senior Leadership and Board of Directors
  • Develop materials for Board of Directors meetings and provides analytical support to Senior Leadership in preparation for Board meetings, monthly reviews and other key activities
  • Collaborate with each department leader in developing department-level budgets and revenue projections
  • Prepare budget allocations across departments in finalizing the budget documents
  • Analyze all allocation methodologies to ensure results are in-line with strategic goals
  • Analyze financial data and presents accurate and timely financial management reports, to include detailed grant analysis, burn rates, etc.
  • Work with project staff in developing proposal budgets to potential funders and subsequent funder reporting at the end of each grant period
  • Prepare monthly actual vs. budget reports and provides strategic analysis, both verbal and written, to project and department staff and senior management for on-going monitoring of departmental and organization budgets
  • Provide proactive and regular financial reporting and dashboard information to the Controller and helps project staff with financial implications of the organization’s operational and programmatic decisions
  • Coordinate the training for project and functional department staff on budget and financial analysis matters.
  • Serve as main point of contact for grant discussions and negotiations
  • Analyze and monitors public information published by watchdog agencies
  • Provide analyses, charts/graphs, etc. for annual report presentation
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Strong track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of foundation grants and preparation of proposal budgets
  • Advance proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Advanced proficiency in Excel includes ability to build and maintain spreadsheet models, ability to build and problem-solve complex, nested functions, and the ability to quickly clean and summarize data
  • Strong analytical, organization and problem solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation
  • Ability to build partnerships, influence decisions and work in a collaborative style with strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all professional, finance and non-finance levels
  • Proficiency in financial modeling with a high degree of exposure to income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workflow and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, be reliable, take initiative and be solution focused
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and follow through
Travel Requirements
  • Up to 10% travel by car, train, or automobile
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; master’s degree preferred
  • At least five years of general accounting and finance experience required
  • Two years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience developing financial models supporting strategic planning projects
  • Experience in a complex non-profit organization 
  • Experience with federal funding preferred
  • Experience with grant management
  • Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Excel, to include PivotTables, vlookup, and macros
