Social Media Specialist ☀️💻💖

We’re looking to add someone to our team to grow our social media presence and communicate our vision of an inclusive and equitable energy system with rooftop solar power as the cornerstone.

Your Projects And Responsibilities
In the first year, here’s what you’ll do:
  • Reboot our social media work — research our partners, competitors, and supporters, and figure out which platforms we need to be on, and ramp us up on those platforms.
  • Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content on multiple platforms — deploy native content that respects and reflects each platform’s unique language, culture, sensibility, and style.
  • Develop meaningful connections with our community members — listen to them, develop valuable and relevant content for them, and encourage them to take action.
  • Work closely with the Growth Team — help to manage our brand and reputation, increase our reach, identify key players, and promote our local and national initiatives.
Your Skills And Experience
If you can accomplish the above, you’ve got what it takes. There’s no specific educational background required.
Hands-on knowledge of a wide variety of social media platforms and social analytics tools is really important, and you’ll need to know how to create engaging content for different platforms. You’ll also need some knowledge of web design, graphic design, and SEO. Experience with video editing is a plus!
Experience in the nonprofit sector would help you understand the people and organizations you’ll be working with, but it’s not required.
Our Team
Solar United Neighbors is a nonprofit that organizes local communities across the United States to go solar, join together, and fight for their energy rights. We’re growing fast — expanding into new states, building new partnerships, and offering new services.
  • You’ll report to the Director of Communications, and work with a committed and creative team of renewable energy leaders, policy wonks, digital marketers, and community organizers on projects with ambitious goals and national impact.
  • We have 30 staff members working across 12 states (and growing each year). Half of our team is located in downtown Washington, DC. You’ll work with everyone.

Benefits
If you’re in the D.C. area, our office is located in a bright, sunlit building directly above the Dupont Circle metro station. If you live somewhere else, we have Slack and video conferencing to keep us connected.
The salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, with a bunch of benefits, including health insurance, 403(b) retirement account, professional development, flexible work hours, and remote work options.
