Volunteer Coordinator & Experience Specialist
Arena convenes, trains, and supports the next generation of candidates and campaign staff. Arena Academies bring together future campaign staffers from across the country for an experiential five-day training with leading campaign experts.
The third Arena Academy takes place September 13 - 17 in Houston, TX. Over the course of five days, 250 participants split between seven different tracks—Campaign Managers, Communications, Data, Digital, Finance and Organizing Directors, and Organizers—immerse in intensive trainings in both track-specific subjects and plenaries. Academy emphasizes strategic leadership and management skills, translating political science into action, building data and digital literacy, and creating an inclusive, experiential, and practical learning environment.
The Volunteer Coordinator will help oversee volunteer recruitment, placement, and management at Academy. We need volunteers to help with tasks such as time-keeping, check-in, mic running, etc. The Volunteer Coordinator will also help curate an incredible participant experience by researching and developing after-hours participant meet-ups around Houston.
Role and Responsibilities
  • Develops volunteer role descriptions and volunteer handbook
  • Trains volunteers
  • Runs pre-Academy volunteer orientation/webinar
  • Identifies and researches opportunities for local, thematic participant meet-ups in Houston
  • Develops materials to facilitate meet-ups
  • Attends Academy for 6 days
  • Manages volunteers, including huddles and debriefs before and after shifts
  • Takes responsibility for volunteer conduct and performance
  • Serves as point-of-contact for volunteers and “help-desk” for participants during Academy
  • Understands the ins and outs of the Academy agenda and participant experience
  • Manages participant meet-ups
  • Helps with participant binder assembly
  • Helps with Academy operations as-needed
This is a temporary contract position. This position is remote and can work from anywhere. In-person presence is required in Houston for the duration of Academy.
  • Contract length: 9 weeks
  • Starts: July 22
  • Ends: September 20
  • In-person: September 12 - 17
  • Contract hours: 10 - 15 hours/week + 6 full days at Academy
  • Reports to: Training Director
