Software Design Engineer
We enable knowledge sharing with the world’s hardest-to-reach communities, empowering them to improve their health, income, and quality of life. We do this by amplifying the reach of local partners through the use of our Talking Book audio devices, which serve people who are often missed due to illiteracy or living in remote areas. We support these organizations with technology, the creation of engaging audio interviews, songs, and dramas, and the analysis of user feedback recordings and usage statistics to better understand user needs.
We have worked with partners like CARE, UNICEF, and WHO to reach over 600,000 people in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. With the aid of appropriate technology, we can scale this program to reach millions more in many more countries over the next few years.
We seek a dynamic, proactive and highly motivated individual to join our software development team. This is a “full stack” software development role, including work on desktop applications, mobile Android apps, web applications, and back-end database applications, through all phases of the application life-cycle. • Be a full participant in, and contributor to, our development methodology.
  • Demonstrably excellent programming skills in multiple computer languages is required. Proficiency in Java, Python, and Javascript are required, SQL, Bash, C, or C++ are a plus.

  • Experience with Amazon AWS is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Git, ReviewBoard, and JIRA are a plus.
  • A passion for excellence and continuous improvement, with a healthy pragmatism.
