The International Focusing Institute is an international, cross-cultural organization dedicated to supporting individuals and groups world-wide who are practicing, teaching and developing Focusing and its underlying philosophy.

Fundraising/Development Internship
Internship Fundraising / Development
We have a fantastic opportunity for someone who is studying fundraising to apply your learning with us. We are a very small non-profit with just two full-time staff and several part-timers and contract workers. We have been in existence for 30 years and are now looking for an intern to help us shape a fundraising strategy. This is a real opportunity for someone who has some academic knowledge of fundraising (or fundraising wisdom acquired in other ways) and wants to gain more confidence and experience by applying it to a real world situation.
Specifically, we are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience with annual and capital campaigns. This is NOT a grant writing or event planning position. You will work as a member of a team with the Executive Director and others in a collaborative manner. This is a hands-on position. Responsibilities will include writing up promotional materials, writing up strategies with time lines, writing up guidelines for phone calling, etc.
At the end of your time with us, we would expect to have developed a clearer roadmap for what actions the Board and Executive Director should be taking in order to maximize donations and other income.
Location
We are located just outside New York City (in Nyack, New York), but because we will be meeting and exchanging information online, you need not be in the New York area. We would meet on Zoom, a video conferencing platform.
Qualifications
  • an understanding of a variety of fundraising strategies, including annual membership campaigns, major donors, and planned giving
  • sensitivity to the needs of an international and cross-cultural organization – ability to recognize that different countries and cultures will want and need different models of engagement
  • outstanding written and verbal expression
  • collaborative attitude and great team working skills
  • great follow-through
  • ability to meet deadlines
  • familiarity with current trends in fundraising
  • familiarity with social media and a variety of outreach methods
  • willingness and capacity to meet via videoconferencing (even if in the New York area)
  • fluency in any language in addition to English is a great asset, as we are an international organization
  • knowledge and experience with writing up promo materials, strategies with timelines, phone call guidelines
Hours
This position has flexible hours (as long as we can find mutually agreeable meeting times). It will require a minimum commitment of about 3 hours a week.
Compensation
$30.00 per hour OR on a project-based rate.
